--Consumers desire to buy furniture edges upward--

For the last two months the Furniture Buying Index has crawled at a snails pace, but continues to move upward with May at 81, June at 82 and now July at 83.

Britt Beemer, Chairman of Americas Research Group commented that, consumers willingness to buy furniture points to a strong fall selling season.

Hopefully this will translate into a strong July 4th weekend, Beemer added, however, consumers are expected to grill out in their backyards at all time high levels. With this in mind, consumers may very well be more focused on the external appearance of their home rather than on new furniture purchases.
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's
Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across
the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed
can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's
mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a
              particular item in mind.
Britt Beemer is chairman of America's Research Group, a full-service
