--Good news for furniture retailers this summer--
Charleston, SC July 1, 2004 – The Furniture Buying Index holds steady this month at a reading of 91. This is good news for furniture retailers because this high rating means that the furniture buying desire remains high, and July 4th weekend sales should be strong.
Britt Beemer, Chairman of America’s Research Group, said, “This is good news for furniture retailers. Often summer months are slow for furniture buying.” Beemer continued, “But the Index as high as it is boads well for furniture sales to be strong this July 4th weekend.”
Beemer added, “This summer should be one the biggest furniture shopping seasons in the last five years.”
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's
Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across
the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed
can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's
mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a
particular item in mind.
Britt Beemer is chairman of America's Research Group, a full-service
