--Furniture Buying Index down two points --
Charleston, SC November 1, 2004 – The Furniture Buying Index is down two points this month to a reading of 88. The Index still remains high despite the two-point drop.
Britt Beemer, Chairman of America’s Research Group, said, “The Furniture Buying Index remains high although it did slip largely because the Presidential Campaign took consumers away from buying large ticket items.” Beemer continued, “Consumers were concentrating on the Presidential Campaign and buying large ticket items for their homes was put on the back burner.”
Beemer added, “I expect the Furniture Buying Index to rise next month as consumers focus on their homes and Christmas shopping.”
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's
Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across
the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed
can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's
mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a
particular item in mind.
Britt Beemer is chairman of America's Research Group, a full-service
