--There are indications that more Americans will be home for Christmas and
subsequently that could create a spurt of furniture buying --
Charleston, SC December 4, 2001 ---–The Furniture Buying Index moves slightly ahead, climbing one point resulting in a reading of 70 for this month. This is a positive sign since a reading of 70 or higher represents the level where retailers know their advertising campaigns will be successful.
“This bodes well for furniture retailers who describe the time between Christmas and New Year’s as their 13th month,” cites Britt Beemer, chairman of America’s Research Group.
“With the Furniture Buying Index back at 70, furniture retailers are looking forward to very strong New Year’s Day sales,” concludes Beemer.
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's
Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across
the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed
can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's
mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a
particular item in mind.
