--Furniture Buying Index remains unchanged--
Charleston, SC December 1, 2004 – The Furniture Buying Index remains the same this month at a reading of 88. The Index being flat this month is a good sign for furniture retailers.
Britt Beemer, Chairman of America’s Research Group, said, “This is good news for furniture retailers who depend on big New Year’s sale events.” Beemer continued, “New Year’s sale events are one of the biggest furniture sales of the year.”
Beemer added, “Furniture retailers will need to be aggressive as consumers may have other purchases they may want to make after Christmas.”
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's
Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across
the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed
can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index's
mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a
particular item in mind.
Britt Beemer is chairman of America's Research Group, a full-service
