June 2010 - INDEX CREAPS UP ONE MORE POINT TO 72
Charleston, SC June1, 2010 – The Furniture Buying Index rose another point this month to a reading of 72. This is the seventh consecutive month the Index has experienced an increase.
Britt Beemer, Chairman of America’s Research Group, said, “The Index holding steady is a positive sign considering summer is not always a great time for furniture sales.” “When the Index reaches 70 points or higher, the success of retail furniture sales goes up dramatically,” he stated.
“This reflects the strength of Memorial Day weekend as a strong furniture weekend,” he concluded.
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America=s Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy. The Index=s mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a particular item in mind.
